Green Burials Now Available
We are pleased to announce that green burials are now permitted in our town owned cemeteries. This environmentally conscious burial option allows individuals to be laid to rest using biodegradable materials and natural practices that minimize environmental impact.
Anyone interested in this option is encouraged to contact our sexton for more information.
The Town of Canaan owns six cemeteries which include:
Haskins (Undermountain) Cemetery- 194 Undermountain Road
Sand Hill Cemetery- 107 Route 63
Lower City Cemetery- 467 Undermountain Road
Barrack (Music) Mountain Cemetery- 213 Music Mountain Road
Root (Steep Road) Cemetery- 24 Steep Road
Holabird, Munson, Kellogg Cemetery- 100 Cobble Road
The Board of Selectmen appoint a Cemetery Sexton who has authority over all town cemeteries. Please contact the sexton for information on purchasing a plot, burials, disinterments or with any other questions.
